Things to do in Nature Park Kopacki Rit
Nature Park Kopacki Rit is situated in the north-eastern part of the Republic of Croatia. Geographically speaking, Kopacki Rit is the flat part of Baranja, belonging to Osjecko-Baranja County, mainly lowland situated between the Drava and Danube rivers and the state border with the Republic of Hungary. This Nature Park is one of the best preserved wetland ecosystems in Europe, where reside about 300 different species of birds.

The best way to visit Kopacki Rit is to start walking through educational trails, long promenade (around 2km). The promenade is modelled upon Suleiman wooden bridge which was about 8.5 km long.
On the walking path are the boards with pictures and descriptions of plants, animals and wetland habitats. These educational boards approach and describe the eco-system that stands in front of you in its magnificent splendour.

The Birdwatching in Kopacki Rit
The value of Kopacki Rit is in the fact that the landscape is constantly changing depending of the seasons, but also under the influence of arrival and departure of water. The floods begin in late February and early March and lasts until mid-July and early August. Dry season runs from August to February next year and during this period the birds are in the fishponds or river streams. The total number of species is highest during the spring and autumn migrations and then in the summer. Although during the winter the number of different species has decreased, in the wider area of the park you can watch tens of thousands of geese and ducks that come from western Siberia.
Research has shown that during a visit to Kopacki Rit, you can see about 70% of the species in a given area, which means that every day you can see 35 to 63 species of birds.
The largest nesting of white-tailed eagle in this part of Europe is in the Kopacki Rit, the largest colony of cormorants and gray herons in Croatia, too. There are so many interesting facts which are hided in Kopacki Rit, and it is up to you to come and discover them.
On the dock, “Veliki Sakadash” on Sakadash Lake awaits ship with which begins an exciting adventure through the Special ZOO Reserve. From Sakadash Lake the ship takes you to the Channel Conakut to Hordovanj, which separates the Kopacko Lake from the Conakut. When you reach Hordovanj, you are in the place where high in the trees lays the largest colony of cormorants in Croatia, and you’ll be able to enjoy in this natural phenomenon.
Tour of Tikves Castle Complex
Tikves Castle Complex consists of a forest, parks, and residential buildings. With each building is located educational board that describes the associated object.
After the tour you can rest and relax in a restaurant Tikves and taste some of the many culinary specialties of Baranja.
In Kopacki Rit is enabled the recreational fishing on natural and artificial channels and on the Danube. The Public Institution Kopacki Rit publishes a daily or annual permit for recreational fishing in the Nature Park. Permits can be purchased in Kopacevo on the Reception Centre.1
